Zwelethu Tekete has passed away after he collapsed.
The community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 26-year-old Zwelethu Tekete, who collapsed and passed away during the Johannesburg Metro Police recruitment fitness tests.
His family describes him as very healthy and gym-active, making his sudden passing even harder to understand. Zwelethu was not only chasing his dream of becoming an officer — he was also a proud father of two young boys, a graduate in Public Management, and a former Mr Africa Continent 2021 and Mr TUT 2019.
This tragedy comes just days after another recruit also lost his life during the same process, raising serious concerns about the safety of these tough assessments. Loved ones and community members are now demanding answers about how such incidents can keep happening.
A prayer service will be held in Braamfischerville, Soweto, while final funeral arrangements are being made in Matatiele, Eastern Cape.
